Helen was conferred with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Juris Doctor degree at the Ateneo de Manila University. She was subsequently admitted as an attorney in the Philippines where she worked for three years at the Supreme Court conducting legal research and drafting decisions.
After moving to South Africa, and in pursuit of admission as an attorney in this jurisdiction, Helen studied law again and obtained an LL.B from the University of South Africa while being a mother of three. She completed her compulsory practical legal training with perfect attendance, passed the admission exams, and served articles of clerkship at Erasmus De Klerk Incorporated.
In 2018, Helen brought a mandamus application against the Director-General and Minister of Home Affairs resulting in a court order which, inter alia, directed the Department of Home Affairs to process her permanent residence application – the final hurdle to her eligibility for admission as an attorney in this country.
Despite the frustration leading up to her long-anticipated admission in 2020, Helen has gained substantial experience in the fields of commercial law, employment law, and insolvency law. Since 2016, she has honed her skills in litigation. Helen followed her erstwhile principal attorney, Louis Venter, in establishing Venter and Associates Incorporated where valued existing, as well as new, clients will continue to receive personal attention and dedication.
